Verisona Law have been singled out for its role in securing the sale of Portsmouth Football Club in a nationwide search for the best professional organisations serving the sports sector.
Verisona Law has been nominated in the category of ‘Best Professional Services Firm in Sport’ at the inaugural UK Sports Business Awards, set to be held at The Brewery in the centre of London on 1st June.
The firm, which represented Portsmouth Football Club during its sale to Michael Eisner and his Tornante investment group, is one of six representing specialist legal, financial and business support services across a wide range of sport, from football and cricket to horse racing and Formula One.
‘It is always satisfying to be recognised for the hard work behind a successful deal, but to represent both Portsmouth and the business behind one of the UK’s most popular sports is a real honour,’ says Michael Dyer, Chairman and Head of Business at Verisona Law.
‘The world of football is exceptional, both in terms of business processes and when compared to other sports, but, in our case, the involvement of shareholders including the Pompey Supporters Trust made the whole process unique and in need of tremendous diligence, care and consideration.’
‘At the end of the day, we all came together to save and support the rehabilitation of a football club that means so much to so many people. We rewrote the rules and have set a precedent for any club, in any sport, that finds itself in a similar situation. That is the most important thing, and I know I speak for the whole team at Verisona Law when I say how proud we are to have been part of that historic achievement.’
