A local legal firm is being championed alongside international corporate brands in recognition for its role in securing the sale of Portsmouth Football Club.
Verisona Law has been nominated in the category of ‘Best Professional Service Business Serving Football’ at the prestigious Football Business Awards, set to be held at Tobacco Dock in the centre of London on 2nd November.
The firm, which represented Portsmouth Football Club during its sale to Michael Eisner and his Tornante investment group, has been shortlisted for the award alongside banking giant, Coutts, national accountancy firm, Smith & Williamson, international law firm, Pinsent Masons and last year’s winners, architects KSS.
‘It is always satisfying to be recognised for the hard work behind a successful deal, but this was a truly unique case,’ says Michael Dyer, Chairman and Head of Business at Verisona Law. ‘The world of football is unlike any other in the first place, but the involvement of shareholders including the Pompey Supporters Trust made the whole process quite exceptional and needed to be handled with diligence, care and consideration.’
‘At the end of the day, we all came together to save and support the rehabilitation of a football club that means so much to so many people. We rewrote the rules and have set a precedent for any club that finds itself in a similar situation. That is the most important thing, and I know I speak for the whole team at Verisona Law when I say how proud we are to have been part of that historic achievement.’
