Shocking findings revealed in BBC investigation into Calcot services

June 9th, 2022

Recent reports from the BBC have uncovered a number of incidents involving children in care being groomed and sexually assaulted across multiple homes run by Calcot Services. Serious neglect of vulnerable children was also identified.

BBC News have discovered the firm’s profits last year were over double the standard profit for a company in that sector in comparison to similar large care providers. Although Calcot argue the surge in profits is down to the build-up of investment and that they prioritise their children, former care staff have spoken out and given evidence against this.

A previous care worker for Calcot Services, speaks about their experiences within their time at one of the homes and the shocking incidents that occurred on a regular basis. The former care worker also claimed that they believed Calcot put profit before the children, resulting in “chronic understaffing”.

Across the homes and schools that Calcot Services run, an appalling amount of serious incidents involving high need children have taken place without ever being reported to Ofsted. These include some of those involved being subject to sexual assault, grooming, rape, being given alcohol and even reports of attempted suicide by a number of young children at these institutions.

Despite all of the incidents and events that have transpired under the Calcot Services, they still maintained a good record with Ofsted and were rated above good, some even outstanding.

Over 100 reports of concern have been raised within the last four years to local councils and regulators from both members of staff and residents/pupils within these institutions with this number expected to rise following this recent report from the BBC.
