Scottish Redress Scheme for Survivors of Child Abuse

In June 2021 the Government committed to setting up a redress scheme in Scotland for survivors of child abuse suffered whilst in care.

Who is Eligible?

You are eligible to bring an action for redress if:-

  1. You were:-
  2. Sexually abused;
  3. Physically abused
  4. Emotionally abused; or
  5. Suffered neglect *
  • As a child (under 18)
  • Whilst in a residential institution in Scotland, such as:-
  • Children’s Home
  • Penal institution
  • School-related accommodation
  • Secure accommodation
  • Boarded out
  • Fostered
  • The abuse took place before 1 December 2004

What Can I claim?

Every eligible person may make a claim for a fixed sum of £10,000.  You may also be eligible for an individually assessed redress payment up to £100,000.

Can I make a claim now?

The scheme is not yet open but the Government have confirmed it will be open by December 2021.
