It was a night that saw businesses from across the South Coast gather to congratulate and listen to the achievements of one of the region’s most prolific and successful lawyers, David Oliver.
Having been honoured earlier this year with a Lifetime Achievement award at The News Business Excellence Awards held at Portsmouth Guildhall, David Oliver was automatically put forward for the category at Johnston Press’ regional event.
The Johnston Press Southern Business Awards held at The Grand Hotel Brighton was a celebration of businesses across Hampshire and Sussex. Presented by BBC One Show presenter and Channel 5 reporter, Nick Wallis, 18 accolades were announced before the final category award, Lifetime Achievement of the Year, saw Verisona Law Consultant David Oliver take to the stage.
Visibly humbled, but displaying a broad smile, David proceeded to thank the award organisers, all the people he had worked with over his career and his wife for her many years of support. When asked what advice he had for the younger generation, David’s response was simple, but heartfelt:
‘Just go for it. I have spent many years in the law and it has served me well. You have to work hard, keep moving forward and do your best.’
David made a name for himself in business by forming Oliver & Co solicitors in Southsea, which merged to become Sherwin Oliver and then later merged with Blake Lapthorn where he became Head of Insolvency. He joined Verisona Law as a consultant in 2010, providing insolvency advice to a wide variety of clients and was part of the team that rescued Portsmouth Football Club.
His long list of accolades and prestigious titles include being the former President of Portsmouth Round Table, the former Deputy Coroner of Portsmouth and a Deputy District Judge, sitting locally until late 2014.
‘We are very proud of David and the much deserved recognition he has received this year,’ said Verisona Law’s Chairman, Michael Dyer. ‘His experience, knowledge and expertise in the firm’s Insolvency & Business Turnaround Team have been of tremendous value. We are absolutely delighted for him.’
