Associate Solicitor, Grant Usher, has been recognised for an exceptionally successful start to his legal career at Verisona Law. Beating entrants from firms across the region, judges of the annual Hampshire Law Society Legal Awards declared him ‘Junior Lawyer of the Year’ at the association’s annual dinner in the Hilton Hotel at the Ageas Bowl, Southampton.
‘I was surprised when I heard my name announced,’ says Grant when asked to recall the night. ‘I was shortlisted alongside some very talented junior lawyers and I felt that all I had done was seize the opportunities that were provided by Verisona Law. I thoroughly enjoy working with the Corporate & Commercial team, for the firm’s clients and it is an honour to be recognised by the region’s legal community.’
Awarded by the judges for a talent, diligence and maturity that belie a young man at the start of his career, Grant was commended for a professionalism, commitment to client care and strategic approach to business development that has received praise from clients, contacts and colleagues alike.
His achievements have included running an immensely complicated ’data room’ for the sale of Portsmouth Football Club, saving a coastal boatyard from insolvency, the Management Buy Out of one of the UK’s largest new boat dealerships and providing guidance to clients on imminent GDPR legislation.
‘We are absolutely delighted Grant has received such deserved recognition for his work to date,’ says Stephen Ryde-Weller, Head of Corporate and Commercial at Verisona Law. ‘In my years working in the legal profession, I have rarely seen a solicitor make such a tremendous impact and earn such well-deserved respect in just over a year.’
‘The Portsmouth Football Club deal, for example, was unique, fast paced and demanding, but you would have thought from his knowledge, ideas and participation in meetings that Grant was a seasoned, experienced expert in the field. He just gets it and is a legal star in the making.’
