Eight former staff members, who previously worked at Rhydd Court School in Worcestershire, appeared in court on Thursday 6th August following a string of allegations against them including child cruelty and sexual abuse. These acts are reported to have been committed between the late 1970s and the early 1990s.

These charges were brought to light from an investigation that had been carried out by the West Mercia Police, following allegations relating to a time when the local authorities owned the school.

Amongst the charges are the conspiracy to commit child cruelty, and to assault, ill-treat or abandon a child causing unnecessary injury. Alongside these, each of the former teachers also face a number of individual charges including indecent assault, conspiring to commit sexual offences and gross indecency.

The defendants include five men and three women, all of whom have been granted unconditional bail until August 31st.
