Former teacher jailed

March 22nd, 2021

A former teacher was jailed for two-and-a-half-years for indecently assaulting a boy in the 1970s following a previous conviction in 2017 for offences involving a 14 year old boy.

Charles Phillip Johnson (72) from Weybridge, Surrey pleaded guilty at Guildford Crown Court on 23 February 2021 to two counts of indecent assault on a child and two counts of indecency with a child.  Johnson was a teacher at Barrow Hills School in Weybridge where all of the assaults took place.

Detective Constable Becky Thomson, who led the investigation said  “I hope Johnson’s sentence will in some way help the victim to come to terms with what’s happened and move on with his life.”  “He had the courage to report Johnson’s predatory behaviour and I would like to commend his bravery in coming forward.”  The police also urged others to come forward if they have been affected by Johnson’s actions.

David Hawkins, who is a specialist in non-recent child abuse case at Verisona Law said “the people who came forward in both of the cases involving Johnson showed immense bravery, and I would also echo what the police have said – that if you have been affected by Johnson’s actions, I would urge you to contact the Police.  If you have been affected by this issue and you wanted to find out more about your legal rights then please do not hesitate to contact our award winning team who will give you expert confidential advice.”
