Former science teacher jailed for sex offences involving young girls

May 7th, 2015

A former science teacher who admitted sex offences involving young girls is starting a prison sentence today.

Bruce Karwoski, 53, appeared at Ipswich Crown Court where he was jailed for a total of 32 months.

Karwoski, who resigned his position as head of science at Northgate High School following his arrest in January, had pleaded guilty to 13 offences of sexual activity with a girl under the age of 18 while in a position of trust.

The court heard that Karwoski, who taught chemistry, had been involved sexually with two girls.

Allegations against Karwoski had been reported to the school in 2015 although they related to earlier dates.

Karwoski, of All Saints Road, Creeting St Mary, near Needham Market, was told by Judge Rupert Overbury that the offences were “extremely serious” and only an immediate prison term was appropriate.

In addition to being jailed, Karwoski was also told he must sign on the sexual offences register indefinitely and is indefinitely barred from working with children.
