Christopher Robin Jarvis, 70, of Dukes Drive, Eastbourne, appeared at Hove Crown Court today, Friday (13 December) having admitted at an earlier hearing 14 charges relating to a series of indecent assaults and gross indecency, all committed over periods of time, against ten boys aged between 10 and 14 who were pupils at St Peters Preparatory School in Seaford between 1964 and 1976. Jarvis was a teacher there between 1962 and 1982, when the school closed.
Jarvis had previously been on court bail but following prosecution and defence submissions today he was remanded in custody for sentencing by His Honour Judge Anthony in Court 4 at the same Crown Court on Monday (16 December). 11 other charges alleging similar offences against the same boys during the same period were not proceeded with and were ordered to lie on the court file. The prosecution, authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service, resulted from an investigation by Sussex Police specialist child protection detectives after one of the victims contacted Sussex Police for the first time in late October 2012.
Jarvis was arrested on 5 November that year and police enquiries led to the further victims coming forward. He was charged when he answered his police bail on Monday 3 June this year. Police stress that there is no evidence to suggest that any children have been recently or are currently at risk.
