After many months of sharing its knowledge, experience and providing legal support to the Supporter’s Trust Board of Bolton Wanderers, it is with immense relief and delight that Verisona Law’s Head of Sport Law, Michael Dyer, welcomed the news this week that a buyer had stepped forward to take ownership of the much-loved club.
Having been called to meetings by the chairman of Bolton Wanderer’s Supporter’s Trust Board to provide consultancy, insight and expertise to establish a meaningful dialogue between supporters and administrators, there was celebration at legal firm, Verisona Law as a buyer for the club was publicly confirmed at the eleventh hour.
‘Having met many of the officials and fans at Bolton Wanderers, I saw first-hand the passion and determination that was behind attempts to not just save the club, but also ensure that the voices of loyal fans were heard,’ says Michael.
‘It reminded me a great deal of the fight we led to save Portsmouth Football Club and my message to our friends in Bolton is for them to take inspiration from the south coast. Pompey was on the brink, but has come back with strength and focus to be where it is now.’
Verisona Law was instrumental in helping the Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust put together a coherent, professional bid for the fans’ ownership of the club, based on the successful model for Portsmouth Football Club and used its existing relationships with administrators and EFL to make them aware of the Trust’s ambition and objectives.
‘Though we did not have enough time to gather the funds from fans to support their bid, I am sure the new owner will respect the participation and involvement of fans to date. It is wonderful news that brings great relief to so many people.’
