Convicted Teacher – Sean Aldridge: Case Summary

Sean Aldridge, 37, was convicted of child sexual abuse on numerous counts whilst in a position of trust as Assistant Head Teacher at Warblington School, Havant, Portsmouth, between 2006 – 2012.

  1. Tuesday 15 January 2019 – Aldridge charged with 15 child sex offences:

Sean Aldridge appeared at Portsmouth’s Magistrates Court to face allegations of child sex offences following an investigation by Hampshire Constabulary’s Operation Marmion Team.

Aldridge faced 15 counts of child sex offences alleged to have taken place between 2006 and 2012.

He is accused of 8 charges of sexual activity with a child while in a position of trust, and 7 charges of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

Aldridge was bailed to appear in Portsmouth’s Crown Court on 18 February.

  1. Monday 18 February 2019 – Plea and Trial Prep Hearing:

 Aldridge was charged with a total of 19 counts following additional evidence. He denied 10 charges of sexual activity with a child by a person in a position of trust and 9 further counts of engaging in sexual activity with a child, entering a not guilty plea on each count.

Judge Timothy Mousley QC granted Mr Aldridge unconditional bail until his trial date.

  1. Monday 17 June 2019 – Pre Trial Review:

Aldridge who as above denied 19 counts of non-recent sexual abuse was charged with a further 8 counts of abuse.

  1. Monday 8 July 2019 – Trial:

Aldridge denies a total of 27 charges. Trial set to run for 3 weeks. Jurors heard how Aldridge abused 4 schoolgirls between the ages of 13 – 16 at the time of the abuse.

Jurors were told Aldridge, who also used the name Jack Ridge, abused his position of trust and authority to groom young girls into participating in wholly inappropriate sexual relationships with him.

  1. Friday 29 July 2019 – Sentencing:

After a trial lasting three weeks, Aldridge, of Edmund Road, Southsea, was found guilty of 24 counts of sexual activity with a child and 1 single charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

Jurors failed to make verdict on 2 counts of child sexual abuse on this day.

Aldridge was handed down a 12 year sentence by the Crown Court in Portsmouth. He will also be placed on the sex offenders register.
