Updating your Will

If you wish to make changes to your Will or write a new one, then we are more than happy to help. Our telephone lines remain open and our solicitors are also contactable via email and their mobiles.

We are able to discuss Will amendments remotely. Ideally we would like to talk to you by video call  wherever possible. We have successfully taken instructions by video call.If a video call is not possible, then we may be able to assist over the telephone depending on your circumstances. We are able to advise whether the changes can be made via a codicil or if a new Will is required. A new document will be drafted and will be sent to you for review/approval. Once you have confirmed you are happy that the Will reflects your wishes, then we can issue a final copy for signing and witnessing.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, our Will signings were witnessed by a Solicitor and a colleague, usually in the office. However, following the social distancing guidelines issued by the government, we will send you your will for signature with instructions on how you can meet the witness requirements without the need to attend our offices. If it is not possible for you to arrange your own witnesses, then we may be able to come and witness your Will (whilst still following social distancing guidelines).

Potential changes in legislation

The government is urgently reviewing the rules around witnessing Wills during the Coronavirus outbreak. Currently, a Will needs to be signed in the presence of two witnesses who are not related to the Testator or named in the Will. The witnesses must then also sign the document.

The current suggestion is that legislation could be introduced which matches the process of Will writing for individuals in the armed forces. Currently, members of the armed forces can make a written or oral Will, and, if written, there is no requirement for a witness.
