Owing to the recent media expose of the claims of abuse that The Scouts Association have faced we are being contacted by a growing number of individuals who allege that they suffered abuse whilst in the Scouts.
The influx has arisen as a direct result of the recent apology released by he Scout ssociation in response to a BBC article whereby it was discovered a staggering amount has been paid to individual who have claimed they were sexually abused.
The organisation has admitted it has paid out around £500,000 in compensation to abuse victims since October 2012. “We apologise to all those who have been abused during their time in Scouting,” a spokesman said. It is understood that the total may in fact be significantly more.
Charles Derham comments that ‘the apology is likely to bring others forward who want proper recognition for the terrible abuse that they have suffered.’ He further comments that ‘for many a reactive apology is likely to be considered as too little too late.’
