Our family law solicitors in Portsmouth and Waterlooville are experienced in helping victims of domestic abuse to obtain the protection that can be provided by the law.
If you are suffering domestic abuse, we can provide you with advice and assistance about the options available to you, as well as advising about other support services which you may wish to access to help you come to terms with your experience.
Domestic abuse affects those who are or have been intimate partners or family members (regardless of gender or sexuality) and are aged 16 or over. It can include a single incident or pattern of behaviour which is controlling, coercive, threatening or violent and can encompass psychological, physical, sexual, financial or emotional abuse.
If you are suffering from violence, threats or intimidation, there are two main types of injunctions which can be obtained:
- Non-molestation order – aims to prevent your partner or ex-partner from using or threatening violence against you or your children. This includes intimidation, harassment and pestering you to ensure the health, safety and well-being of yourself and your children.
- Occupation order – an occupation order is used to decide on the occupation of a property, which means that one party may be required to leave the family home due to the impact their behaviour is having on the family.
We understand that you may be finding it difficult to know where to turn and so we can offer you a free and no-obligation chat with an experienced family lawyer to discuss your situation and the options open to you, please call us today on 023 9298 1000.
