Investigations at Muckamore Abbey
In recent months the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) have been investigating thousands of incidents following allegations of abuse.
CCTV footage has revealed 1,500 crimes being committed on one ward of Muckamore Abbey whereby the incidents of abuse are said to have occurred within the psychiatric intensive care unit across a 6 month period between 2017-2018.
In August 2018 it was reported there had been 53 assaults on patients by staff at the hospital whereby 5 of those incidents were investigated and substantiated.
Since investigations commenced in 2017, a total of 33 staff, predominantly nurses, have been suspended from the Hospital. They have been placed on precautionary suspension while police conclude their investigations.
