Leslie Carter

It was reported in the press today that former Anglican chaplain Leslie Carter has been convicted of sexually assaulting young boys. .. former nglican chaplain has been warned that he faces a likely jail sentence after pleading guilty to a series of indecent assaults on young boys. Father Leslie arter, 84, of Bathwick Street, Bath, admitted nine indecent assaults against three boys over a 20-year period between 1957 and 1977. A further 12 charges denied by Fr arter, including two charges of buggery of one of the victims, were left to lie on the file.

Judge Graham White, sitting at Harrow Crown Court in north west London, warned the former Anglican chaplain he was keeping "all options open" when he sentences him on October 19. He said: "You pleaded guilty to what are very serious offences involving the sexual abuse of young boys who were in your charge. You abused your position of trust both as a priest and a teacher." He added: "I have to tell you that all sentencing options remain open and that a sentence of imprisonment is the most likely outcome." The court heard the first victim had been indecently assaulted when Fr Carter was Anglican chaplain to St George's School, Cape Town, South Africa. The two other victims were abused after his appointment in 1968 to Quainton Hall School in Harrow, north west London.

"I would like to express my profound heartfelt gratitude to Lisa Gafarov for all her hard work and understanding when representing me. She fought passionately for my case for two years.

Within this time, never once did I feel it was about the money for her. She was very considerate and dealt with many personal matters in a caring and professional way. It was a very sensitive case but she put in a lot of hard work and went the extra mile each time. Her wide range of expertise was indispensable during this difficult time. Because of this I trusted all her advice and as a result, this took a lot of pressure off of me.

She managed to reach a very amicable conclusion between the defendants and myself. You don’t know how much your passion impacts the lives of others. For this I am forever grateful. I would recommend your firm a hundred times over."
