Jimmy Savile Abuse Claims

Having been contacted in recent weeks by a number of individuals who allege they were abused by the late Sir Jimmy Savile, it was with great sadness that Verisona’s Historic Abuse Team watched the BBC’s Panorama documentary that exposed even more details of this growing scandal.

Since the police confirmed that Savile’s alleged catalogue of sexual abuses could have spanned six decades, we have seen an increasing number of potential claimants finding the strength to step forward and have their cases put forward for consideration.

We are currently aware of potential claims against Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Broadmoor, Leeds General Infirmary and the BBC Corporation itself. Of particular concern are allegations from former pupils of Duncroft School, Surrey who allege Sir Jimmy Savile would sexually abuse them whilst he visited the premises.

The inquiry into alleged child abuse by Jimmy Savile is now a criminal investigation and its outcome may well strengthen any potential civil claim for compensation. It could be that the evidence of individuals yet to come forward can be linked with other group actions to ensure a successful result.

Charles Derham, Head of Verisona Law's specialist Historic Abuse Team said “The brave actions of those who have found the courage to speak out in relation to Jimmy Savile has resulted in other people now finding the strength to come forward to both offer and receive support. Many of the people who have contacted us have kept the abuse they believe they have suffered a secret for years and simply revisiting their past is proving a painful process’.

Charles Derham has extensive experience in historic sexual abuse compensation claims and helping those in need understand their legal rights.
