Verisona Law in Portsmouth have been consulted by a number of vulnerable and elderly clients, relating to the sale of their homes, resulting in them losing most of the value of their property.
The victims responded to a newspaper advert placed by Speedy Property advertising “Fast cash for your house today” “stay in your home rent-free” and claiming “we pay more than anyone else”.
Seeing the advert as a quick and easy way to sell their home, they contacted Speedy Property, who put forward an unknown third party as a buyer, and a price was quickly agreed. The victims were also put in touch with a Midlands firm of solicitors to act for them.
On completion of the sale the victims’ solicitors paid enormous sums out to other companies - Infinity Investment Solutions, Futures Homescape, Archtree and Double Diamond – for reasons that are not yet clear. The victims only received a small proportion of the price paid for their houses: An elderly couple in Portsmouth lost £99,000; An elderly lady in Nottingham lost £111,000, and; a gentleman in North Wales lost £96,300.
As a result of this transaction, the victims have lost most of the value in their homes. They have received only a small proportion of the sale price and have ended up living in temporary council accommodation, with no ability to buy an alternative property.
Midlands police have received similar complaints and are investigating.
Verisona Law are now investigating all matters and would welcome contact from others who may have had similar experiences. The law firm’s dispute resolution team have said “property scams have become more common in recent years and we encourage people to consult solicitors if they also feel they may have been subject to similar activities”.
