New Court Fees For Money Claims From April 2015

The good news is that for claims of up to £10,000 the Court fees will not change, but fees for higher value claims will now be charged at 5% of the sum claimed, subject to a maximum fee of £10,000.

If you issue proceedings electronically through Money Claims Online (MCOL) you will receive a 10% discount, but remember, only claims valued below £100,000 can issued through MCOL.

Keeping legal costs down when issuing debt proceedings

The Courts are already noticing an increase in the number of companies and individuals representing themselves in proceedings, in a bid to save money when pursuing a debt.

They report this is slowing the system down because the claimants do not understand Court rules and procedures, with the result that cases are being adjourned or even thrown out.

This suggests that acting for yourself may be a false economy, as time is always of the essence when pursuing a debt successfully and you could lose your case if you do not follow the process properly.

With the forthcoming increase in fees it is especially important to press on quickly if you have a higher value debt to recover. Call our Debt Recovery team if you would like professional legal advice.
